Product sampling: what permits do you need?
Handing out samples of food, drink or product. The big variable is open food or drink: it usually pulls in the health department, and alcohol pulls in the liquor authority.
Not legal advice. Confirm with the city. Requirements, fees and lead times change and vary by location and by the exact activity. Always confirm with the issuing agency before you rely on anything here.
What to watch for
- Open food or beverage sampling usually needs a temporary food permit from the health department.
- Sealed, pre-packaged products are often treated differently from prepared food. Ask.
- Alcohol sampling is a separate regime with its own permits and age checks.

Insurance
Venues, landlords and cities usually want a certificate of insurance naming them as additional insured. Clearpop collects and checks those for every vendor on your project.
